På kvällen den 4 december 1676 färgades snön röd av blodet från tusentals svenskar och danskar som under en hel dag utkämpat en svår strid man mot man.

Skulle det bli Danmark eller Sverige som skulle få kontrollera det både strategiskt och ekonomiskt viktiga Skåne?

1676: The battle of Lund. The bloodiest in Swedish history

Karl XI became king of Sweden in 1660 when he was just over four years old. In the beginning, the country was ruled by a guardian government led by Queen Hedvig Eleonora, but in the early 1670s it was time for the young king to assume the role of monarch in one of Europe's largest and most important countries. After the Peace of Copenhagen in 1660 and the Peace of Oliwa, against Denmark and Poland respectively, the situation looked very favorable for Sweden. But in fact Sweden was militarily weakened and Denmark wanted revenge.
